WHERE WERE WE BEFORE ALL THIS ELECTRONIC DEVICES AND SERVICES?

In the beginning!

In no particular order!

There was the vinyl record.
And it was all right if you did not mind the scratches and the "Snap, Crackle, Pop sounds!

There was the phonograph.
That could be used with a vinyl record.
And it was great!
Provided you knew when to change the needle.

There was the radio.
And it was good!
There was AM before FM.
If you did not mind the fading from going through tunnels, buildings that had a whole lot of metal because metal was a real blocker as for listening to AM goes.

Then there was the mobile phone.
And it was good!
If you could afford it!

Then there was television.
It had at first VHF  before UHF.
With antenna.
What we used to call "Rabbit ears".

Then the phonograph went from mono!
To stereo.
And it was great!

Then there was the 8-track tape.
As well as the brand "Playtape" brand this had only 2-tracks.
The 8-track was somewhat popular type of playback machine.
The only drawback there was!
On some tracks the song would be continued the next track.

Then there was quad stereo.
Which had four separate speakers that would playback the music in each of the four speakers with instruments in each of the speakers.
But! There were people that claimed all quad was stereo with four more speakers to which it was not.

Then there was antenna service.
There is a history about this you can find on the Internet.
This was available to only those who lived in the "rich suburbs" or in places where you could not get TV reception was if you were in the  big city.
As in one suburb you could get channels from outside the city, state, even Canada and read the news on one channel. when in the mourning ( in those days most TV stations did not stay on the air during the night unless! You lived in NYC!) you could get other TV stations but the were covered in what we used to call snow on the picture.

Then there was cable.
And it was great!
As I recall! There were HBO only in the evening.
They had some baseball games as well as movies before expanding into what it is today.
The worse tasting chewing gum for the eyes ever!

Then there was the cell phone.
And it was awesome!
Those who could afford mobile phones did!

The there was the VCR.
And it was good!

Then there was beta videotape.
And it was so-so!

Then there was VHS.
And it kicked beta's caboose!

Then there was compact disc's.
And it was expensive.
But! Good!

Then there was the Internet.
And we did not have until later!

Then there was the personal computer.
And then the Internet.
And it is excellent!

The boom-box, PDA, palm, I-pod, Satellite radio,
Walkman, voicemail, email, AM radios that could fit in the palm of your hand.

How did we get along w/o them?

Back then!
We had to take our time in all things.

There was none of that crap!

V-mail?
There was an answering service.
A human person and a voice taking calls for those who were elsewhere/busy.

We knew how to make time our friend not as we today our enemy.

People knew and cared about each other.
Not even knowing each other as we do today!

Here! We are!
Trying to make friends On the Internet.
Instead of making them in real life.

We rely on our electronic devices to help us make it through the day and night.
No longer! Do We depend on ourselves.

Our time!
Is not of our own!
But! Of our devices.
