WHERE WERE WE BEFORE ALL THIS ELECTRONIC DEVICES AND SERVICES?

In the beginning!

In no particular order!

There was the vinyl record.
And it was all right if you did not mind the scratches and the "Snap, Crackle, Pop sounds!

There was the phonograph.
That could be used with a vinyl record.
And it was great!
Provided you knew when to change the needle.

There was the radio.
And it was good!
There was AM before FM.
If you did not mind the fading from going through tunnels, buildings that had a whole lot of metal because metal was a real blocker as for listening to AM goes.

Then there was the mobile phone.
And it was good!
If you could afford it!

Then there was television.
It had at first VHF  before UHF.
With antenna.
What we used to call "Rabbit ears".

Then the phonograph went from mono!
To stereo.
And it was great!

Then there was the 8-track tape.
As well as the brand "Playtape" brand this had only 2-tracks.
The 8-track was somewhat popular type of playback machine.
The only drawback there was!
On some tracks the song would be continued the next track.

Then there was quad stereo.
Which had four separate speakers that would playback the music in each of the four speakers with instruments in each of the speakers.
But! There were people that claimed all quad was stereo with four more speakers to which it was not.

Then there was antenna service.
There is a history about this you can find on the Internet.
This was available to only those who lived in the "rich suburbs" or in places where you could not get TV reception was if you were in the  big city.
As in one suburb you could get channels from outside the city, state, even Canada and read the news on one channel. when in the mourning ( in those days most TV stations did not stay on the air during the night unless! You lived in NYC!) you could get other TV stations but the were covered in what we used to call snow on the picture.

Then there was cable.
And it was great!
As I recall! There were HBO only in the evening.
They had some baseball games as well as movies before expanding into what it is today.
The worse tasting chewing gum for the eyes ever!

Then there was the cell phone.
And it was awesome!
Those who could afford mobile phones did!

The there was the VCR.
And it was good!

Then there was beta videotape.
And it was so-so!

Then there was VHS.
And it kicked beta's caboose!

Then there was compact disc's.
And it was expensive.
But! Good!

Then there was the Internet.
And we did not have until later!

Then there was the personal computer.
And then the Internet.
And it is excellent!

The boom-box, PDA, palm, I-pod, Satellite radio,
Walkman, voicemail, email, AM radios that could fit in the palm of your hand.

How did we get along w/o them?

Back then!
We had to take our time in all things.

There was none of that crap!

V-mail?
There was an answering service.
A human person and a voice taking calls for those who were elsewhere/busy.

We knew how to make time our friend not as we today our enemy.

People knew and cared about each other.
Not even knowing each other as we do today!

Here! We are!
Trying to make friends On the Internet.
Instead of making them in real life.

We rely on our electronic devices to help us make it through the day and night.
No longer! Do We depend on ourselves.

Our time!
Is not of our own!
But! Of our devices.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SECURITY GUARD/MGR.!

I can only go by my experience as one!

I was a security guard for over 4yrs..
And what I have seen and heard and did!
Well! Let me tell you all about it!

In my first day of in-house training.
We were told by the instructor!
That! "It does not matter if you have a gun, permit to carry one, or both"!
"All it means that by giving a guard a gun in his hand!"!
"Just gives him another reason to shoot"!

We were told that if there's a problem!
911 it!
We also learned about how to use a fire extinguisher.

Even though! When we go to a post we are to learn about the machines, units we are to monitor which was not learned at the office.

Trust me folks!
It does get better!

As time went on!
I not only got to learn the job!
But the other guards as well.
Let me tell you!

It's a mixed bag of fruits, nuts, trail mix!!!!!
There are some that are  "Want to be cops"!
But! They are so afraid that they may fail at the civil service exam!
That this! Is as close as they want to get to be!

And! The one's that are in charge of the account.
Just as bad!
Give them a title!
And they are drunk with (so-called) power!

And even the guards themselves do the same.
Even Mgr.!
Are no better than the rest of them.

You the client!
Either have to appoint someone from mgt. to supervise the guards!
Or! Have in-house security.
Because when you go for outside private security.
You stand to lose more then the other wise.
Also! The guards will schmooze the employees while working.
Not good!
I have had incidents where the guard is to check the employees badges as they come in to work.
But! When I come in too fill in.
I get from the employees: "Well so en so let's us come in w/o showing h\the badges"!
And I have to say:"Do I .look like s/he"?
They shut up real fast!

It is one of those jobs where it is not bad to do on the wknds..
But don't make it your life's work!

IN THIS ECONOMY THERE ARE STILL SOME GOOD JOBS OUT THERE!

Yes! Virgina!

There are still some good jobs to be had out there!
Let's start of by talking about freelancing.

What is freelancing?
As best as can be put.
It is taking what you know or can do!
and make a buck out of it.

There are many websites out there you can learn about.
Some even without investing any money at all.

Let's start of with talking about the things one can do with little investment.
Ever think about starting your own business?

It is easy to do!
You do have to look into the laws in your state to find out what is needed to start a business.

Anyway! In this life and time.
The word freelancing has taken on a new meaning.
It use to be known as a freelance writer.
But! Now any more!

It means that your an "Independent contractor"!
That means you are your own boss.
Doing whatever it is you want on your terms.

Some of the things you can start out with are these.
As well as the dos in freelance and consulting.
Also the do not!

You might want to consider starting your own business.
Like multi level marketing (MLM).
I know! What a lot of people are thinking.
Pyramid scam!
Yes! and No!

The reason it is called that!
Is because of what a MLM'er did long time ago.

But! It is not as bad as you may think.
I have been in it myself. And it is not that bad.
There are some solid MLM's out there.
It does take time to check them out.

One of the things that I do not recommend!
Is not to go into the franchise business!
Going into the franchise business is like buying yourself a job.

There are just way too any costs involved!
And! It does not make any difference to the franchisee.
If you do make any money or not!
As long as they get their money!!!!!!!
The most expensive franchise fees.

What is your hobby/interest?
That! Could lead to a job or career for you.

There have been people that took what they like/love!
And turned it into a business.

Examples: How to Turn a Pastime into a Career.
people who have turned their hobby or interest and turned it into a business/career.

This comes anywhere from little to max. costs it all depends on what you want to get into and can you afford it?

FATHERHOOD

I KNOW!

I'M EARLY FOR THIS!
BUT! I GUESS WITH THE HOLIDAYS UPON US.

I COULD NOT HELP BUT THINK ABOUT MY DAD AND HOW HE WAS WITH ME AND MY HALF (I SAY THAT NOT BY CHOICE BUT YET IT IS TRUE MY TWO SISTERS ARE FROM TWO DIFFERENT FATHERS MY ONE SISTER ALWAYS REMINDS ME OF IT!) SISTERS.

HE HAD A TOUGH LIFE GROWING UP.
BECAUSE ONE TIME HIS MOM ASKED HIM TO ACCOMPANY HER TO THE MARKET.
HE SAID NO.
AND HIS MOM SAID "ALL RIGHT ".

THE STORY WAS THAT WHEN SHE CROSSED THE STREET. A STREET CAR (THIS WAS IN THE WINTER) CAME ALONG AND HIT AND KILLED HER.

EVER SINCE THAT TIME!
HE AND WE WERE AND ALWAYS ARE TO BEAR THE BLAME THAT HIS WHOLE FAMILY HAS PUT ON US.

AND WHEN HIS FAMILY HAD DINNER!
HE WAS IN A CORNER EATING SOUP WHILE THE REST WERE EATING STEAK!

WHEN MY MOM MET HIM.
HE WAS AT A BAR WITH HIS HEAD DOWN ON THE BAR.
WHEN MY MOM SEEN HIM.
SHE TOLD THE BARTENDER "GIVE HIM A DRINK"!
AND THE REST IS HISTORY!

HE WAS  NOT THE BEST DAD TO HAVE IN THE WORLD.
BUT HE DID HIS JOB AT THAT TIME.
GOING TO WORK, BRINGING HOME THE PAYCHECK AND MOM WOULD TAKE CARE OF THE BILLS, KEEP THE HOUSE CLEAN, TAKE CARE OF US KIDS AND SO ON.

I CAN ONLY SPEAK FOR ME!
BUT! HE DID TRY TO BE A GOOD IF NOT FAIR FATHER TO ME AND MY HALF-SISTERS.

HE WAS NOT THE KIND/TYPE OF DAD YOU WOULD NOT WANT! HE DID TAKE ME TO THE PARK AND SWING ME AND KEEP AN EYE ON ME.

AS FOR A HERO?
NOT!

WHEN I WAS GROWING UP.
HE WOULD STEAL A LOT OF THINGS FROM ME AND MY MOM WOULD BACK HIM UP ON IT!
EVEN THOUGH SHE KNEW THAT WHAT HE DID WAS WRONG!

THE ONLY TIME HIM AND I GOT ALONG!
WAS WHEN I HAD BEER HE WANTED.
THEN!!!!! WE WERE PALS!

MY BROTHERS-IN-LAWS!
SAID THEY LIKE HIM!
BECAUSE HE WAS A "MAN'S MAN"!

"BIG DEAL"!!!!! (BFD!!!!!!!)

BUT! NOT A "SON'S DAD"!

IN LATER YEARS!
I GOT MARRIED!
HAD TWO KIDS!
I TREATED THEM WAY BETTER THEN HE DID ME!

I KNOW IT'S NOT RIGHT TO SAY WHAT I'M ABOUT TO SAY!

BUT! YOU DON'T KNOW HIM AS I DID!

WITH WHAT HE DID AND PUT ME THROUGH!

I AM EVER SO HAPPY/GLAD THAT HE IS (AND I HOPE HE IS WHERE HE SHOULD BE!) DEAD AND GONE!

NO SON/DAUGHTER SHOULD EVER GO THROUGH WHAT I DID WITH HIM.

SIDENOTE: I HAVE SEEN AND READ AT Q & A SITES!
ABOUT HOW COME THEIR MOM/DAD ARE THE WAY THEY ARE?

IT IS BECAUSE OF HOW THEY (THE PARENTS) WERE RAISED!

NO ONE COMES INTO THIS WORLD WITH A MANUAL IN TOW!

THIS! IS NOT A BLOCK PARTY!
MAKE IT!!!!!!!
